Everest Base Camp Helicopter Details

Currently, there are two breeds of helicopter popular for sightseeing activities in Nepal’s civil aviation. These are the AS350 Écureuil/AStar family of helicopters manufactured by Airbus Helicopters and Russian made Mil MI-17. AS350 is a light utility helicopter that can accommodate 4-6 passengers (Excluding Pilot) depending upon undertaken assignments. Similarly, Mil MI-17 is an extremely reliable transport helicopter that possesses the capability to carry 22 passengers or four tons of cargo. This robust helicopter can endure punishing Everest climate with little and easy maintenance. There are two types of helicopter currently operating in the private sector: AS 350 B3e series of helicopters which are manufactured by Euro-copter, France and are very popular all over the world. It is regarded as one of the most versatile helicopters and is suitable for mountain flying and all types of helicopter missions. Another helicopter is the powerful Russian made MI-17. This is a big bird, capable of transporting 22 passengers or four tons of cargo. MI-17’s can reach altitudes well in excess of 5,000 m and have been known to land at Everest Base Camp.
