Trip Introduction

One of the most challenging climbs in Nepal is the Island Peak Climbing. Island Peak, also known as Imja Tse, has an altitude of 6189 meters and is a popular climb of the Khumbu region of Nepal. It is one of the classic trekking routes and comes with the Island Peak Climbing and Everest Base Camp trek package. However, you can choose the Island peak package only as well.

Overview of the trip

The total days you will require for the trip will be 19  nights and 20 days. During the 19 nights and 20 days, you will conquer the Island Peak summit along with the Everest Base Camp too. For the climb, you will start your trek from the Chhukung villages. It will only require two nights and four days for you to conquer the summit. The official trek begins at the Lukla and then follows the trail of the Everest Base Camp through the Dudhkoshi river and the Namche Bazaar. You will pass through the Kala Patthar, Tengboche, Dingboche as well as Goram Shep. As the journey is an extraordinary experience, you will get to view the beautiful rhododendron forests, fantastic trekking trails, stunning monasteries along with the panoramic views of the Khumbu Himalayas like; Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt, Pumori, and Mt. Ama Dablam.

From the Chukkung village, you will follow the trail to the Lhotse Glacier and then proceed to the Imja Tso Khola. Then, you will finally reach the Island Peak Base Camp, which is at an altitude of 5100 meters. As you will not find any hotels and lodges in the base camp, you need to accommodate with the slabs and boulders and spend a night in the tent. As you move closer to the summit, you will get to the Crampon point, which will require you to wear your climbing boots and get ready with the climbing gear. As you walk through ladders and the crevasses section, you will face a flat glacier on the foothills of the Ice headwall. The ice headwall is a 45 degree and 300-meter slopes of snow that leads to the summit of the Island peak. As you conquer the summit, you will get to view the beautiful Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Lhotse Middle Peak, Mt. Lhotse Shar, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Ama Dablam and Mt. Baruntse.

 

Best Season for the Island Peak Climbing

You can choose the best season for Island Peak Climbing as the spring season or the autumn season. The weather and the climate during this season are moderate in Nepal. The months from March to May is Spring in Nepal while the months from September to November is autumn in Nepal. During these times, the atmosphere is good with a clear sky. However, you will have a hard time if you want to trek in the months of winter. The months from December to January are really cold in Nepal, and you might also face the problems of snow too. Due to extreme climatic conditions, it might be tough for you to conquer the peak. Hence, it is recommended that you do not choose the winter season. However, Island Peak climbing is possible during all seasons of the year.

Difficulties that you might face during Island Peak Climbing

Climbing to the Island Peak is not easy at well. It is one of the most adventurous climbs that you can try in Nepal. However, you can make the climb easy as per your wish and demand. Due to the hardships faced by the people, the majority of the people do not reach the summit of the peak and give up. So, if you plan for an Island Peak Climbing, you need to prepare yourself mentally and physically as well. You can lengthen the number of days you plan for the trek, as giving more time can increase the chance of success. Also, make sure that you have the necessary training sessions before the peak climbing as it is one of the toughest adventures in Nepal. Learn necessary mountaineering skills if you want to overcome the peak climbing in an easy way.

In conclusion, you need to collect basic mountaineering skills as you proceed to the Island Peak Climbing. You will have a great time during the climb, but, it might make it be very hard for you to conquer the summit. The glaciers at the lakes at high altitude makes it hard for you to conquer the summit. Also, you need to hire a professional guide with you if you want to conquer the summit with ease.
